"I believe in supporting a child's body, mind, and spirit connection. This helps a child find his/her true potential and connects him/her to a positive sense of self and the world. We have available to us now many high intensity programs that support rapid changes in the child's sensory motor mastery, which in turn nurtures and helps support the child's spirit and capacity for learning."
Nancy is an occupational therapist who has integrated many therapeutic techniques into her pediatric and adult practice. Her extensive study and skill in such approaches as Auditory Integration Training, Brain Gym, sensory integration and sensory processing, Therapeutic Listening, Samonas Sound Therapy, CranioSacral Therapy and Myofascial Release has led to an eclectic practice that focusses on the child's needs and the most efficient way to help the child achieve positive outcomes. She specializes in sensory processing and energy work and is continually adding knowledge of cutting edge technology to her treatment repertoire. She is a certified Berard AIT Trainer and a Higher Brain Living facilitator.
Ms. Lawton-Shirley has generously donated her expertise for many years, treating and training in Chinese orphanages through the Red Thread Charities. She was instrumental in replicating the Camp Avanti model in Hudson, WI and for many years served as a co-director of the camp.
Nancy has taught, researched and published extensively throughout her career on topics related to pediatric occupational therapy. Her work has often highlighted new areas of intervention and how they fit into the occupational therapy frame of reference.
