Description
Our favorite thing to do is collaborate in assessment and treatment. We have found the outcomes and generalization we are all looking for happen much faster when we work side by side.
The constructs of SI theory and practice as they relate to designing therapeutic environments and activities are woven together throughout the course with lecture, experiential labs and videotapes of integrated OT/SLP treatment of children birth through school age.
Lots of discussion and problem solving with clinical reasoning based on SI theory, other OT approaches and traditional communication strategies. Come together. It's more interesting, fun and immediately applicable.
Objectives: at the end of this course you will
1) Truly be able to identify when and what a child needs in terms of sensorimotor support to accomplish a joint goal.
2) Design an environment that is irresistible to children.
3) Turn your traditional therapy tools into power tools by plugging them into sensory processing theory
4) Quickly determine the child’s arousal state and design strategies to bring a child to a state of readiness and interest for communication, interaction, learning and fun.
